The Order of the Cockeyed Loons was created in 1924. The originators, fisher people all, concocted a fanciful order based on organizations that were popular in the society at the time. The idea grew from just a thought to artistic renderings of certificates carrying seals, ornate calligraphy and, for the creators, facetiously grandiose titles. Based on an original and a magnifying glass we find the following Weslemkooners:
Hugh Jamieson: Thrice puissant Exalted Ruler, the Honourable Colonel
Cliff Walker: Sovereign Custodian of the Fishing Tackle & Shack, Sublime Sleuth of the Angle Worm
Elizabeth Walker: Most Wise General Good Scout and Secretary-Treasurer.
The remaining originators are:
Dorcas Walker, Dr. Arthur Procter, Harold Barclay Brown, George Scott Murray, Hatton M. Robertson and George Allan.
The “new” certificate” that is awarded these days is still quite detailed but lacks those names from our history.
