About Lake Weslemkoon Conservation Association

LWCA is an active association dedicated to the preservation and protection of the natural environment of Lake Weslemkoon. The board of directors works hard to ensure that the quality of life on the lake is maintained.

Water quality is a prime concern and LWCA has developed a schedule of testing to carefully monitor water quality by testing in specific areas of the lake on a regular basis. Some years, the association has arranged for septic pumping to be available on the lake to help ensure that septic systems are working efficiently. Water levels are monitored through the Bancroft Ministry of Natural Resources (MNR).

The association works with MNR to ensure that logging in the area has a minimal impact on the lake. Hikes are arranged each summer so that members can observe logging activity in the area.

Through the Municipal Affairs portfolio, LWCA maintains contact with the township and gives input on matters that affect lake residents, such as garbage disposal, the Official Plan and other local issues.

Lake Weslemkoon and adjoining Otter Lake have many rocky shoals and the lake association maintains and monitors marker buoys to help with safe navigation.

As part of our cottage inspection program, members’ cottages are checked in the late fall and early spring each year, and members are notified if there has been any damage.

Another purpose of LWCA is to foster social interaction of members. A variety of activities are organized including hikes, canoe and kayaking expeditions and social outings. The Junior Loon program provides fun activities for children.

The Annual General Meeting is held on the Saturday of the August long weekend. Various directors present information about their portfolio and there is usually a guest speaker. The AGM is well attended and enjoyed as an information meeting as well as a social event.

The Loon Call, the association newsletter, is sent out in the early spring to members. It is a harbinger of summer and enjoyed by all.

Membership in LWCA provides many benefits and we encourage all who love the lake to join us.
