The Lake Book Update – The Home Stretch
As of this writing we’re busy proofreading and will bring the book to the finish line as soon as possible.
Needless to say, countless hours have been dedicated by a number of people to help bring this project to light. We’ve tried our best to make this book something that we all can be proud of. In fact, the way the book is shaping up I believe it will be truly something special. Special in the way that it has successfully captured cottage living in Ontario in the 20th century that is historically significant. And for those of you who have been on the Lake for a long time, it will have a nostalgic value of times past: when boats were wooden, the lighthouse was a lighthouse and the water was clean enough to drink.
I would like to apologize in advance for any errors and omissions. Given that the nature of the book is one of collected stories, recovered archives and scattered documents missing pieces are unavoidable. That is not to say, that what we have collected is not impressive in its breadth and depth. What started out as a small pile of papers 6 years ago is now 4 large boxes.
SOME GOOD NEWS
You might say there was a silver lining in delaying the publishing in that the printer’s price came down so that we were able to add another 96 pages. We’re still finalizing the budget with the printer but if all goes well it looks like the book which was at the beginning of the project planned to be 196 pages will be now 312 pages!

DISTRIBUTION LOGISTICS
The books will be available to pick up at the marinas. Please, please, please, respect the protocol: to get your order you must sign for it. The print run of the book is 375 copies which gives us just enough to cover all the orders and the book options. We can’t afford to lose any.
An email will be going out and posters put up in the marinas to notify everybody when the book is out.
RETURNING MATERIALS
We’ll be spending the summer returning materials. After the summer the remaining materials will be mailed to the owners.
MANY THANKS
This book would not be possible without the generous support of you, the cottagers of Lake Weslemkoon. I want to particularly thank the team of proofreaders and editors of Jon Keeble, Catherine Rathbun, Lissa Akerstream and Marion Evans. I also want to thank Christopher McDermott who is working on the putting the DVD together and Peter Brown for setting up the Order Form database and managing the receipts.
Finally, many thanks to everyone for all your contributions and financial support, and for your patience. It’s been a long journey but the end is now in sight.
